A long, large, usually flatbottom boat for transporting freight that is generally unpowered and towed or pushed by other craft. A barge anchored offshore makes an excellent seaplane service facility. An office, lounge, or shop is normally included aboard and floating docks can be added alongside the barge. The barge may be anchored directly to the shore or to a pier by booms and a gangway or anchored offshore in a fixed position.
